Uncategorized Ireland Photos

On every trip abroad, I run across some quirky specimens of local life and culture that merit a photograph. The images below fall into that category for my recent Ireland trip. They aren't necessarily quintessentially Irish, but they nevertheless strike me as being associated with the land and experience of that trip.

This sign stands at the end of the "official," fenced-in trail on the top of the Cliffs of Moher. As you can see, it has been heartily mocked through sticker graffiti over the years, and heartily ignored by visitors (including me).

Gotta go, gotta go! Sign on the door of the ladies' restroom at the seaside pub in Ballinskelligs, where we had lunch on our Ring of Kerry day.

A display of the condiments on our table at that same seaside pub in Ballinskelligs. I've definitely never seen vinegar or HP sauce in a condiment tray in the United States. (It's the fish and chips influence no doubt, for the vinegar anyway.)

This tasty-looking food mound contains potatoes prepared three ways (mashed, roasted, and a little potato cake), thick slices of ham (which they called bacon on the menu), and cabbage, as well as a hefty dose of butter and/or cream and/or oil that made it soooo good.

And finally: When I checked in at that night's B&B one blustery afternoon during the bike tour, the kind hostess asked me if I wouldn't like "a wee scone." I certainly could not refuse.

Ahh, Ireland.... I miss it already!
