Snow Update #2: Venturing Out!

Early afternoon today I decided to venture out of the house and walk to the grocery store across the street for a few supplies for tomorrow's dinner. Jenny needed some things too, so I treked to her house and then together we waded through the snow to the store. After just a few minutes outside, my hair was covered in flakes and little icicles. It was chilly but invigorating!

Here I am all bundled, with snow powder in my hair. You can see how high some of the snow drifts were by the dusting of white on my jeans.

On the way to Jenny's I spotted these festive, hearty little bushes. Their vibrant colors are a spectacular contrast to the white and gray that's enveloped us all day.

After the grocery store we walked over to James and Lauren's house (also in our neighborhood) for an impromptu Christmas fete. (Well, it was impromptu for me; Jenny knew about it earlier today.) This shot of Jenny's cute Wellingtons in their parking lots gives you an idea of how much snow we got. Their lot hadn't been plowed and I swear the snow came up to our knees!

My own feet in the same lot.

Check out the cute hat Jenny loaned me for the walk to James and Lauren's. It kept the snow off my hair and out of my eyes too!

Dessert Innovations

Ever get the hankering for a brownie? What about a pile of homemade cookies? Those are soooo heavenly. What will satisfy that sweet tooth the most? How to decide?

Now you don't have to! Satisfy those cravings with the amazing new C'Brownie (pronounced Kah-brownie)! My 8-year-old friend Liam and I spent yesterday afternoon experimenting with this most complete confectionary, a product of Liam's ever-scheming ingenuity and my experienced baking savvy.

The C'Brownie is the ultimate in dessert satisfaction: a soft, warm cookie baked in the middle of a chewy, chocolatey brownie. After eating a C'Brownie, you will realize that a previously unrecognized void has now been filled in your life. The sky will seem bluer, the sun brighter, the crabby cat lady next door a little less crabby--especially after you've shared some C'Brownie with her. Because the C'Brownie brings together two of the tastiest treats known to mankind--cookies and brownies--it has the power to bring together people, animals, nature, and maybe even nations. Yes friends, the C'Brownie is just that good.

The C'Brownie is currently available only by special order. Coming soon to fine bakeries everywhere.

Peace, love, and the C'Brownie

Misty Morning on the Tidal Basin

Thanksgiving morning I got up early and went downtown for a brisk walk around the Tidal Basin. It had been raining during the night and the air was still saturated with watery mist. I took my camera with me to capture this misty, wintery morning.

The Jefferson Memorial looked regal, as always, when seen through the mist across the Basin.

Greenery among the sparse, blossomless, and leafless cherry trees that ring the Basin. The brown leaves on the ground took on a purplish hue in the damp light.

A lone branch reaches out over the water.

I love the yellow leaves clinging to the lower branches of this tree.

Vibrant red and green on a holly tree.

Light posts stand sentinel along the desserted path to the FDR Memorial.

I spotted this firey tree alone at the edge of the soccer field behind the FDR.

Craggy Japanese cherry trees bordering the Basin. If you look closely, you can glimpse the columns of the Jefferson Memorial on the other side of the water.

Another view of the Jefferson Memorial through the trees.

I loved stumbling upon these bursts of color in the middle of all the brown and grey. They especially stood out against the monochrome whiteness of the sky.

Bare branches frame the bridge that crosses the northern end of the Tidal Basin.

One more shot of the Jefferson Memorial across the water.

More autumn leaves brightly holding out against the on-set of winter.

Oh, how I love Washington, DC!
