Misty Morning on the Tidal Basin

Thanksgiving morning I got up early and went downtown for a brisk walk around the Tidal Basin. It had been raining during the night and the air was still saturated with watery mist. I took my camera with me to capture this misty, wintery morning.

The Jefferson Memorial looked regal, as always, when seen through the mist across the Basin.

Greenery among the sparse, blossomless, and leafless cherry trees that ring the Basin. The brown leaves on the ground took on a purplish hue in the damp light.

A lone branch reaches out over the water.

I love the yellow leaves clinging to the lower branches of this tree.

Vibrant red and green on a holly tree.

Light posts stand sentinel along the desserted path to the FDR Memorial.

I spotted this firey tree alone at the edge of the soccer field behind the FDR.

Craggy Japanese cherry trees bordering the Basin. If you look closely, you can glimpse the columns of the Jefferson Memorial on the other side of the water.

Another view of the Jefferson Memorial through the trees.

I loved stumbling upon these bursts of color in the middle of all the brown and grey. They especially stood out against the monochrome whiteness of the sky.

Bare branches frame the bridge that crosses the northern end of the Tidal Basin.

One more shot of the Jefferson Memorial across the water.

More autumn leaves brightly holding out against the on-set of winter.

Oh, how I love Washington, DC!

Beautiful pictures. The Tidal Basin is my favorite place in DC. Thank you for posting the pictures. I miss my 'home' more than ever.

What lovely pictures. I miss DC so much. Let's find Scott a job out there so we can play together.
