Every year, Spring is, for me, a revelation. I marvel at the new life, new growth, bright colors, leaves, blossoms, and buds, emerging from previously-frozen soil and barren branches. That feeling was especially salient for me this year, after the long, long, very snowy winter we had, which left me a little scarred and traumatized.
When the cherry blossoms emerged on the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC, sometime in April this year, I relished the chance to wind my way among their pink-and-white brightness.
Here, some photos of the blossoms in their glory, a day or so after they hit their real peak. (As a side note, I arrived downtown at around 7:30am on a weekend and the area was already teeming with people.)

The iconic Washington Monument.
A couple more with the Jefferson Memorial in the background.
In this photo, you can see that the blossoms were past their peak and were already starting to fade. They were completely gone within a few days after these photos were taken.
