Did I Really Just Say That?

Not long ago, I went for a bike ride after work on one of the trails in this area. Near the end of my ride, I came upon a runner going in the same direction, whom I had to pass. He was running without a shirt on, and I noticed that his shorts in the back were sagging down a little bit, so that the waistband and a few inches of his white underwear were visible. It didn't seem like he was wearing his shorts low on purpose, just that they'd shifted a little during his run. He probably didn't even know his underwear was showing.

Nice underwear, I thought jokingly.

As is my custom, I warned him that I was passing by calling out, "On your left," as I approached. Then, just as I was passing by, and in the same business-like tone, I added, "Nice underwear."

I was mortified the instant it came out of my mouth. That comment was meant to stay in my head! Did I really just verbalize it?

The guy didn't respond and I don't know if he even heard me. If I ever see him again on the trail, I'm going to claim temporary Tourette's syndrome and pedal away as fast as I can.

It's crazy of me to say this..but I'm happy you did. You just have to cut loose sometimes and say what you are thinking. Plus it was harmless.
