I've been feeling pretty blah since the break-up and not really in the mood to decorate my house for Christmas. I'm also going away for the holiday so putting up a tree and busting out all my Christmas stuff, etc., just seemed like a lot of work for something that I wouldn't get to enjoy much. Nevertheless, I did want a little something to make my home feel festive and lift my spirits.
Home Depot had just the thing: a hollowed-out cedar log bursting with an arrangement of Christmas greenery--mostly pine boughs, with some holly and other branches. It was just what I needed to bring a little Christmas cheer without having to put up a full tree. (Forgive the poor picture quality. Taken in low light with my camera phone.)
I set the little Christmas box up on my bookcase and wove some lights in. Then I draped a ribbon across the wall above to hang my Christmas cards on using some tiny clothes pins that have mini-Christmas tree cut-outs stuck to them. When I was getting the lights out, I discovered the pretty snow globe-music box my sister gave me a couple of years ago that plays "Carol of the Bells." I also spotted a little camel ornament, which I think was a gift from my friend Amy, and decided to put it out as well, to remind me of my time in the Middle East.
Lastly, I strung some white lights around the windows on the other side of the living room. When I was finished, the room and I both felt a little cheerier.
