Dear Mom,

Thank you for never taking pictures of me sitting full or partially naked on the toilet as a young child. Thank you for never distributing any such pictures to friends and family members (as far as I am aware). Thank you for not leaving a public record of the ups and downs of my potty training experience, particularly for not posting such things on your blog. Not that blogs existed back then, but whatever the 1970s equivalent was, thank you for not using it to discuss my potty training progress or show me in the midst of doing it, for all the world to see.

There are times when discretion and privacy cannot be overrated, even for a two-year-old.
